The Right Kind of Fear!

Psalm 112:1,7 verse 1-Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his commandments! verse 7- He shall not be afraid of bad news; his heart is fixed, trusting in Jehovah.

Psalm 112 is a Psalm of David that gives in detail the characteristics of a man (person) that fears God and delights in His commandments. Verse seven of this Psalm is what caught my eye. "...he shall not be afraid of evil tidings". Today we are living in a world where nothing but "bad news" is being reported on a day to day basis. The constant barrage of negative issues and impending threats of terror are all to common place. Jesus prophesied in Luke 21:26 that in the last days (of which we are currently living) mens hearts would fail them because of fear. The word "fear" used in Luke here literally means terror. Fear is one of the devils favorite weapons. Why? Because fear is the opposite of faith. And the devil knows, according to Hebrews 11:6, it (faith) is the only way for us to please God. So his tactic, strategy if you will, is to counter act faith with it's opposite, fear. He is so predictable! Our text, however, offers a remedy for the fear of "evil". Psalm 112:1 says that the man who fears the Lord and delights in his commandments is blessed. Verse seven of that same chapter says that same man who fears the Lord will also be free from the grip of evill tiding (terror). How? Psalms 112:7 tells us how. "...because his (the man that fears the Lord's) heart is fixed on Him (God)! The hebrew word for fixed in this verse is "ko-on" which means to be steadfast, firm or established. The psalm 112 person is unmovable because he is established by relationship and connected in fellowship with his God. In a time when threats of global war and acts of unspeakable violence, there has been no greater time to put your trust in the Lord and fix our hearts than now. Fill your heart with his word instead of the "news", fill your mouth with his promises instead of doubt. "...be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might". FEAR NO MAN! FEAR GOD! I'll leave you with the words of the master.
Mathew 10:28 - And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
