"The Potter's Field"

Mathew 27:7-8
27:7- And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.
27:8- Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

The potters's field was a tract of land that was used to bury strangers, pilgrims and undesirable people just outside Jerusalem. It was also used to discard broken vessels of pottery and a vast array of worthless items. After Judas committed suicide the chief priests were at a quandry as to what to do with the 30 pieces of silver that was used to betray Christ. They would'nt put it back in the treasury, like the good religous men they were (sense the sarcasim), because it was "blood money". So they opted to buy the "Potters field". In light of the vast amount of symbolism (types and shadows) that the bible uses through out it's pages, I don't think it to be coincidence that, at the cost of Christ's blood, a field of undesirable, unwanted, broken and rejected things was purchased. What a beautiful portrayal of the redemption of mankind. But the blood of Jesus was not shed to purchase a small tract of land outside jerusalem, but rather it was the ransom for sinners purchasing the redemption of our broken and shattered lives. While once unusable and discarded sitting in the spiritual pottersfield of our human existence, we have now been purchased and made completley new. God did'tnt fix our lives, he gave us a brand new one for the bible says in 2Co 5:17- "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new". The word new there in this scripture literally means something that has never existed or been seen before. Friends, the potters's field has been purchased along with everything in it. Your buried dreams, your discarded future, your broken family, your lifeless joy. Glory to God in the Highest, His mercy is unfathomable! May you realize that you are the possession and inheritance of God Almighty!
1 Peter 1:18- Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 1:19- But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

  1. Nice blog. Everyone has their own potter's field filled with all their past mistakes, mishaps and missteps. The blood of Jesus was shed 2,000 years ago and subsequently the "potter's field" for mankind was purchased.

    Great Analogy
